One more vegan in the world

So, I’ve started a blog about being vegan. But i should probably say a bit about myself, why i went vegan and what my intentions are for this blog.

My name is Laura, i live in the south of England, I’m 23 years old, I’m a graduate and i went vegan on the 16th July 2016. At first it was daunting as the diet i had known and loved for the past 23 years i could no longer eat. I absolutely loved cheese! My diet change journey all started on my seeing of the documentary ‘Blackfish’. On seeing it, it made me start looking and questioning how we treat animals in our culture. Not just in entertainment and circus’, but in all aspects of life. But it wasn’t until a family trip to Florida, that i decided i was not happy with the idea of eating animals so i went vegetarian. Why would i eat a pig but i wouldn’t eat my dog? In the next following two weeks and with my new found vegetarianism, i researched into how the industrial farming industry works and how animals are treated in the process. To say i was horrified would be an understatement. I felt guilty, extremely angry and very upset all at once. How was this stuff legal? Why didn’t i know about it? And why was i paying for it to happen?!

I quickly realised i was not prepared to give money to an industry that treats animals in this way. So i went vegan overnight. I feel it is an injustice in the world and it is my belief that if you see an injustice being done in the world, you shouldn’t ignore it. So this Friday i will be happily celebrating my 2 month veganversary.

So, why write a blog? Well with my new found veganism, i have started to really be interested in food and cooking. I cook so much more now than i ever did as a meat and dairy eater and i never ever used to enjoy cooking. I feel like i love and appreciate food and flavours so much more than i ever did. Its been an incredible start to my journey and i never expected such a drastic change in my diet to make me love food so much more!

I want this blog to be a place where i am open and honest about the challenges, positives and negatives i face as a vegan. I want to share my experiences with an open mind and honest tongue. I want to share recipes i try, news articles i read relating to the subject of veganism, the food i discover that i like and don’t like and things and people that inspire me to live a happy and healthy vegan life.

This is a place for me to vent my thoughts and feelings, if people read it then thats fantastic. If they don’t, it will be a place that i always enjoy going to to share my positivity and passions for vegan food and the vegan lifestyle.
